From Santa to the Polar regions.
The sled business remains big business, because they are in their modern motorised form an essential for travelling across and working in all snowy regions. In my research since last time during this part of the year I have not been able to find out much more.
There does not seem to be any books on the subject, perhaps someone will be able to enlighten me to this. There must be many countries involved in the design and production of these machines, such as Scandinavia, Japan, the U.S. and Canada.
The Christmas sled has more of an origin in Russia, than Lapp land or Switzerland. This was used as transport from ancient times in winter and polar conditions. Rivers that are not frozen remain a problem, apart from that military vehicles today seem to be snow tractors of various types over sleds or skies. Many aircraft also are fitted with sleds and skis to cope with winter conditions of ice.

China and N-Korea.
The Long March.
I did not plan for this to coincide with current events? My list was written last year and next years was composed in January this year.
We may today be on the verge of a nuclear war, it will be the first time since 1945 that a nuclear weapon has been deployed in a hostile action and millions of people are going to die because of it.
Both China and N-Korea have developed a series of ICMB (Inter-continental ballistic missiles) from former Soviet types, these rockets are the only ones that can catapult into space.
We do not really know what N-Korea has developed or improved on, but it is estimated that their ICBM's can reach to the Caspian Sea. So you can then work the rest out for yourself.
China has joined the space race by getting a man into orbit, while N-Korea has sent up a satellite which is kind of advanced for a backward nation? What is the next target, is it in space or is it in hitting the U.S.A over the north pole with a nuke?
Technology moves on and many nations are and will develop their own deterrents ans space programme's for good and bad. The U.S./Russian club is now coming to an end one way or the other, that the way it is with every machine ever invented and so it goes on.

Icebreakers.
The Ice breaking ship was and is very much associated with Russia, but many other nations have them too. the U.S.A, Canada, Japan and the U.K. To be enabled to break ice and allow shipping to access ports in winter is quite a feat and an essential.
Many of the largest ships built by the Russians were used for exploration and spying of one kind or another. To have access to both poles was a breakthrough in engineering.
These type of ships will probably remain being built and improved in their capabilities for the years to come. Man has leaned much about the polar regions on the planet, but there is still so much more.
