Many helicopters most people think are for rich people who want privacy in travel, but they are wrong since many are used to ferry workers to our oil and gas rigs in the north sea and from time to time island communities in Scotland and the Scilley off Cornwall, Rathlin off N-Ireland and many other places to!

Helicopters are now common as air ambulances, saving may lives and transporting sick people over great distance from hospital to hospital apart of traffic and work incidents? 

Small types to large ones are employed in these essential roles in our modern world, getting over mountains and water are some of the key aspects of their roles!

Others are used by the national grid in relations to getting engineers to remote places to repair power lines after storms and bad weather, if not civil disturbances and deliberate acts of vandalism

 Meanwhile many are being replaced in some areas of work by drones, that are cheaper and can go places helicopters cannot, but they will also provide services in cities to move donor/ harvesting materials, blood samples and other, which cuts out getting stuck in traffic?

Other machines provide a taxi services for racing jockeys and moving materials that may be urgent for one reason or another and they also come in varied sizes!

The most common types in the U.K. Are the Airbus H135/145, Bell 207, Leonardo A189, 109, 139 and others in the family, the Airbus H225 is mostly deployed to gas and oil rigs and fitted out for 30-+, while the Sikorsky S-76 is the most popular air taxi and the S-92 for search and rescue?

Modern sail yachts are the state of the art today with the demands of better vessels for racing and others being sold on for avid sailors and for pleasure, if not also featuring in many movies and other!

This is a world-wide popular sport that basically uses aviation type fuels, if not that of rocket combustion chemicals and there is little data to tell us what damage is being done to the atmosphere if not higher up to?

We tend to blame everything the burning of fossil fuels, but it remains unclear about these fuels and how our made made radiation is effecting the climate too!

Most of the Middle-East that host this sport during the winter months do not believe the COP conference data, which they say proves nothing and now that deals on fossils are being done what is the point of complying by rules that are getting broken?

With Trump back in power, he wants musk to start drilling on Mars for detected fossil amounts, so that car racing and other can continue, while a space dock could be built in space, what a visionary!!!

Always a Demand!

Speed and aerobatics will always be a challenge to the aviator and records want to be broken all the time? Sport flying is adventurous, despite its dangers, people like the thrill and excitement of aircraft in this category?

There are always new concepts and ideas  coming to the fore in aircraft design and many of the worlds light training aircraft started off as competition aircraft before they became the SIA-Marchetti  SF-260 Warrior, Epsilon, Yakolev YAK-9/11, 52, Sukhoi SU-26, Shorts/EMB-Tucano, Pilatus PC-7/9, and many others too numerous to mention from around the world!

Many bi-planes developed from agricultural spray aircraft today fulfil the role of wing walking and other enjoyable aerobatic events!

New Concepts?

Older ideas from the bi-plane era and smaller lighter material has moved us away from agricultural spraying to aerobatic displays and racing. Now some of these bi-planes did put on shows back in the 1920' to 40's in the various showmen and stunt shows, but they seemed to have died out with the introduction of the jet age in the 1950's, when speed was all the new thing-craze?

But in recent years there has been a demand for air racing and many successful light training aircraft have been super-charged to meet this demand. Thus so has stunt flying returned and aerobatic displays, we will not cover the types of aircraft in this blog because there are so many!

That will be something for you to check out for yourself, meanwhile there are also many other machines, home or kit builds that meet the requirement of Micro-lights that too are meeting this new demand, Gyro-copters are coming back into the airshows around the world.

Bicycles.

Human achievement has to summed up in this one machine, because it can almost go on any land surface and has also been adapted for the microlight.

There are some really clever concepts or takes, but what they lack is a seat as the bike has. Solar power, if the machine can be dual powered will be a great leap forward.  A machine for the people, easy to repare and maintain.

Two, three wheels, tandems, racing, and a few more versions now exist and that seems to be the end of the human capability with this simple machine?

It is strange that no one as yet has thought outside the box with the bicycle?

Alternative Concepts.

Why replace the Bicycle?

Do you ever watch those science and tech programmes on you Televisions, ipads, computers and Sat-TV, that show some silly alternatives to the Bicyle?

I have come to the conclusion, that many of these new high-tech inventions could cause one more serious harm to our bodies than improve our health. Many of these alternatives have come to the fore, to encourage us to try and excercise. But then why don't you just get a bike, or a dog and go for a walk!

If we want to be serious then to start with a saddle is perhaps the best idea, from there we can develop a lighter machine. The fold up is perhaps the greatest invention for the bike, then comes those ultra-light racing bikes. But still it retains its basic shape, my challenge to you out there 'great inventors is to improve what you have, while retaining the flexability of what you have.

It will only be time, that will show us what we can do with two wheels, to make it 3-4 or more, but remain a human powered vehicle?

Yachts.

Yachting...

The modern Yacht captures the charm and the challenges of the sail ship on a much smaller scale. But to captain or work a Yacht is a very demanding event, especially in a racing event or a single handed around the world trip.

Yachts are for pleasure and sport, but in earlier days some were used in world exploration trips. Racing yachts of various types have helped in the development of improved hull design in bigger ships and military patrol vessels. Speed and stability are the two keys to ship design improvements.

As a carrier they have only really become associated with the smuggling and illegal importation of narcotics.

When we put the engine on the bicycle man invented the motor bike and with it came the horse on two wheels.


This form of transport came into its own right from the day it was conceived, as a messenger service vehicle. But today it is used by courier services, the police and paramedics. 


In the so-called third world the Rickshaw has been motorised to great effect as a little road vehicle. Many businesses have stemmed from this conversion.


There have been additions apart from the trike, there is also the fitted side cars, which I am now told are luxury compared to the old days. 


Sport has seen these machines improve into super everything and why not.
